A unique cultural experience

Greek Owls

Greek Owls came as an idea since 2013 when Semiramis Sofra was an undergraduate student of Archaeology and wanted to share her knowledge in language and monuments to other people. The idea was to combine culture and Greek language in an interactive and fun way.

In our perspective, learning a foreign language is a combination of speaking with natives whilst immersing to the history and culture of the country. Greek is not only letters, it’s picturesque villages, sandy beaches, monuments that stands in the landscape for centuries, fresh fruits and vegetables and warm people known for their hospitality.

You only need to explore with us the beauty of Greece!

History Behind

Owl is the sign bird of goddess Athena. “Owl of Athena”, as it refers, it was used in ancient times as a symbol of knowledge, wisdom, perspicacity and erudition. Owls are depicted on pottery vases, weights and amphoras for the Panathenaic Games. The most important depiction is on ancient Athenian coins (tetradrachms) after 510 BC. It is interesting that owls are not connecting only with Athena, but also, they were used for motivation during battles among Greek cities, such as the Battle of Salamis (480 BC).

Our logo came from the idea of wisdom and knowledge. “Greek Owls” are all and each of you who would like to take part in this Greek language and cultural community.

Let the journey begins!
